Primary Education
Several of the area’s public school districts boast a national reputation for excellence, including Shaker Heights, with a low student-to-teacher ratio and high academic scores. There are more than 100 public school districts in our eight-county region, enrolling nearly 440,000 students.

Greater Cleveland also boasts some of the nation’s best private schools, including Gilmour Academy, Hawken School, Laurel School, University School, and St. Ignatius High School. There are 24 private high schools in Cuyahoga County, 14 in surrounding counties.

Colleges and Universities
Greater Cleveland’s higher learning institutions offer a range of education options, from urban to rural settings and from large to intimate campuses. There are 23 universities and private colleges in the region.

Cleveland is home to the renowned Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), one of the nation’s oldest institutions and Ohio’s largest private research university. CWRU is well respected for its biomedical, social, nursing, law, and business offerings.

Three state-supported institutions are available in the region, offering high-quality public education. Cleveland State University, in the heart of downtown Cleveland, offers 71 undergraduate degrees, 35 master programs, 10 doctorates, and two advanced law degrees. Kent State University is known for its liquid crystal technology research, and the University of Akron a world leader in polymer science.

Choose from three outstanding community colleges: Cuyahoga Community College, the largest college in Cuyahoga County, with three area campuses; Lorain Community College; and Lakeland Community College.

Libraries
Want a comprehensive and state-of-the-art library system? It might not be something you think about when making a move, but isn’t it nice to know Greater Cleveland’s is great?

Known as the Cleveland Metropolitan Library System, this resource is a 12-county consortium of 82 public, academic, hospital, corporate, and school libraries in Cuyahoga and surrounding communities. Plus, the Cleveland Public Library is the nation’s second largest municipal library and hosts the nation’s third largest public research collection.
